FAQ Section (new players pls read thru)

Q: What is the objective of the team?

A: We want to play friendly matches, the occasional tournaments eventually. However, when we play, we want to play well. From past experiences, playing in a makeshift team is very frustrating, with teamwork lacking, and everyone doing solo dribbles, no communication, misplaced passes coz we dun know how each teammate will run, and everyone has their own ideas as to how to play the match. It will eventually turn into a selfish game and everyone blames everyone. I have even seen instances where fights breakout amongst teammate because of miscommunication, which is very shameful indeed. Football is a team game. I want to emphasize the word TEAM. The very meaning and foundation of the word means co-operation and understanding, working for each other to achieve the same goals. Teamwork does not happen overnight and must and can be cultured and nurtured. As such the team have adapted the policy of improving as a team. We lose, we lose as a team. We win, we win as a team. I believe that the team is only as strong as the weakest player in the team. Good teams will exploit our weaknesses easily therefore we have to train our players, both the good and those not so experienced ones as well. And we want the better players to help the weaker ones as well.

Q: What are the training sessions about?

A: Based on the current status, strengths and weaknesses of the team, we will cater the training sessions to strengthen the weaknesses and build on our strengths. We will touch on all aspects of football in due time, basically individual technical skills, fundamentals of football, tactical movement, tactical knowledge, etc. The topics will be structured in a syllabus manner so that it is easier for players to adapt and learn progressively. Each session lasts approx. 2-2 1/2 hrs.

Q: Why train? Why not just play a game every session?

A: As players we all have our individual strengths and weaknesses. Only thru step by step training where each aspect is isolated will be be able to identify and correctly attend to the problem areas. Honestly if we just play games, we won't improve much. We will gain match experience, but technical skills will not improve. If we were doing the wrong things, we will continue to do the wrong things as there was no moderating or explaination or correction done. There are many instances where techniques and movement have to be explained. In addition in a full 90mins game half the time the ball is either in the air, in transition or out of play. So u are left with 45mins. With 2 teams of 11 each, each team will have 22mins of possession (assuming 50-50 possesion). With 11 players, each player will have only 2 mins give or take to be in contact with the ball. So in a 90 mins match, each player only touches the ball for 2 mins or less if u are a defender or goalkeeper. So how much improvement can we make in 2 mins per week as compared to a 2 hrs training session where most of the time each one will be on the ball for at least an hour? Common sense will show u the benefits of training. On top of that, in the later stages, we will be able to train and rehearse tactical aspects of the game, like set pieces, which can sometimes make or break a match.

Q: How often will we train?

A: We train once a week, and will focus on techniques and tactics. We will briefly touch on fitness every once in a while. It is highly recommended for players to train fitness on their own, go for jogs at least once a week. For now we will train about 4 times a month. Eventually we will adapt a 3 training, 1 match routine.

Q: Who will play in matches?

A: As football is about teamwork, naturally those that come more often for training will have priority to play as the teamwork and understanding is there. However the team will still be balanced accordingly. Before each match the coaching team will shortlist 15-18 players for the match. If the player is not free on the match day, another player will be picked instead. So for matches only those attending will need to pay for the field and referee booking. Substitutes if unused or had played for less than 15mins will not need to pay. For attendance, we will factor in those that are absent with valid reasons such as work, exams. illness or personal commitments. This is in place to be as fair as possible.

Q: Ok i get it and would like to join the training. What do i have to bring?

A: Weekly we will update the players via email on the location, date and time of our training, as well as what to bring. But basic equipment is your personal boots and socks. Your own water bottle is recommended. Shin guards are sometimes needed for training, and compulsory for matches. If there is any last min changes, we will inform you via phone or sms. Therefore new players are required to "register" with us by giving us your contact number and email address.
